Parents, teachers and students in Lirare Baptist Primary School were treated to rare drama when their Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa and local musician and contractor Steve Kay engaged in a scuffle.
Barasa had visited the school that is Kamukuywa ward in his constituency, Kimilili Constitution where he was expected to commission five new classrooms built through National Government Constituency Development Fund.
However, the politician was taken aback when he discovered Steve, born Stephen Masinde, and his colleague Ronald Graham Wafula had locked up the newly constructed classrooms.
According to Steve, the MP has refused to pay 3.4 M for the construction and was demanding payment before giving out the keys . The drama escalated and Barasa was caught on camera slapping Steve.
`A medical report from Kimilili hospital showed the contractor suffered multiple bodily injuries.
The matter has been reported to Kimilili police station where Steve lodged the complaint soon after the incident.
“Ihave closed this classes because they cannot begin to operate without me being paid as they will be spoiled by children and he might end up refusing to pay me completely,” he said.
