Kenya Film and Classification Board recently announced that they will be enforcing the ban on all film content that promotes LGBTQ in the country. With the announcement, one of the LGBTQ biggest ambassadors in the country Makena Njeri made some comments in relation to the announcement. As expected the Bold Networks CEO was not pleased but all hope was not lost.
“I don’t think that we should be worried about their progress but about our future and where we are going. I am extremely confident about our generation and where we are going. The people I speak to, the people I know, the people who are woke…I am even more confident in the generation that follows me, the Gen Z.”she wrote.
Makena further argued that banning the film content will do little in stopping the LGBTQ community campaign as there are other avenues that can still be used to promote their content.
“These people are vocal, they are too many outlets to air their content. I think that we should stop looking at content from the lens of ‘promoting same sex relations’. Let’s also think of the fact that people are going to get educated.”
Makena then warned the older generations who were not willing to accept the gay community that their time was running out.In a previous post in her Instagram Makena explained that the reason they came out as the members of the LGBTQ community was to act as a gateway and encourage others who feel enclosed or uncertain about coming out to do so.
Makena has been very vocal in speaking about matters concerning the rights of the members of the LGBTQ community. In an interview with Bien of Sauti Sol, the actor argued that there is a need for the ministry of education to incorporate matters of the LGBTQ in the curriculum so as to help kids who are growing to understand more about their sexuality.
Makena is not the only celebrity in the country who has come out as a member of the LGBTQ community. King Alami and Noti Flow are another couple who subscribe to the rainbow colors as well as another media personality Anita Nderu. The community is growing with each passing day.
