Earlier on yestaday, reports went viral on social media stating that daring armed robbers disarmed police officers before stealing unknown amount of money from Equity Bank in Matuu, Machakos county.
The raid is said to have lasted over ten minutes before the gang drove off amid a car race. According to Tuko blog, one robbery suspect was shot and escaped with injuries.
“One robbery suspect escaped with injuries after being shot during a bank robbery in Matuu. The suspect was in a gang of three gunmen who raided Equity Bank in Matuu.”
News from Equity Bank Kenya through its Facebook account page states that no one was injured during the said stressful incident. To add on, good news is that, no money was stolen as the suspected robbers didn’t access the vaults.
Equity Bank Kenya: “Dear member, kindly note that we had a distress incidence today morning about unauthorized access into the banking hall of our Matuu Branch. Security agents led by local authorities are on the scene investigating the incident. Nobody was injured neither were the vaults accessed. In the meantime, you can access your account by dialing *247# or through Equitel; Equity mobile; internet/online Banking; Equity Bank cards; Equity Agents; ATMs! Thank you for taking your understanding.”
