Over a month after famous businessman Jimi Wanjigi declared that he will be presenting his presidential candidature through the ODM party, the vocal ODM member has on Friday, visited Chungwa House.

Through his Facebook page, Wanjigi, who has promised a bruising battle with the party’s incumbent leader Raila Odinga for the party’s flag, said he visited the Chungwa House as one way of formally announcing his candidature for the top seat in 2022.

“Today we have officially come to Chungwa House to formally announce that I will be running for @TheODMParty’s Presidential ticket during the 2022 General Election,” posted wanjigi.

Among those who were present to usher in Wanjigi included ODM Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.

This comes just some days after he lashed out at ODM party leader Raila Odinga, reminding him that ODM is not his personal property, rather a national party.

Wanjigi reminded Raila that the real owners of ODM party are leaders like William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi, Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo Musyoka, who all came together in 2006 to form the party.

Already, Wanjigi has rolled out a high-end campaign team as he seeks to dethrone Raila Odinga from the party’s leadership. Raila is yet to officially declare his bid.

Mr Wanjigi’s entry into the race comes at a time when the party is also trying to broker a coalition deal with President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party, ahead of the 2022 General Election.
